For patients who do not wish to receive a blood transfusion

This hospital fully understands and respects the right of patients to refuse blood transfusion if they or their family members refuse for such reasons as infection or religious beliefs.

However, in emergency situations, the inability to transfuse blood can result in the loss of precious lives that could be saved by blood transfusion.

In the event of an emergency in which not transfusing blood would result in the loss of a patient's life, the hospital's Ethics Committee has made it the hospital's policy that the doctor in charge will perform the blood transfusion from a humanitarian standpoint, regardless of any reason given for not doing so.
